Day 7: Thursday 13 August 2026 - Westward Ho!

Today we set off fairly early to Westward Ho! as we had been told it was a good place to visit.  The satnav took us on a fairly hairy route through narrow roads with high hedges and the trauma of meeting other vehicles but we eventually made it to Northam Burrows Country Park where there was plenty of parking for £8 for the day. The beach was extremely extensive and the dogs had a lovely time chasing about in Bowie's case and trotting along in Pepper's.

James enjoyed playing cricket on the sands but the game eventually had to come to an end as Bowie changed the ball to something resembling a sock! The visit was rounded off by a paddle in the sea followed by a delicious Hockings ice cream which had been highly recommended and did not disappoint.

We then wandered into the town and some of us had chips on the seafront and then wandered back to the car and made our way home via a less stressful route.

The travelling picnic table. I sat at this table last Sunday after I had fainted in Bideford.  And now, on Thursday, here it it in Westward Ho!

Best ice cream in the south-west of England?
